Impact of the censoring distribution on time-to-event problems in the presence of competing risks

چکیده
Objectives Methods accounting for competing risks in time-to-event problems are becoming common in mainstream statistical analyses. Standard approaches include those based on log-rank type tests [1] and cumulative incidence regression [2]. These approaches are based on weighting competing events by the censoring distribution. The usual cumulative incidence regression uses weights based on the pooled censoring distribution. However, the impact of the pattern of events and censoring in these approaches is still unclear. We examine two aspects of this problem: the amount of competing risk present in a proportional hazards model, and the pattern of censoring between groups in the presence of competing risks.

Determining factors contributing to the five-year survival of children suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia based on tree survival model in the presence of competing risks
Abstract Background and objectives: Leukemia is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. The relapse of the disease mitigates patient survival time. The convenience of explaining the results obtained from analyzing tree models have encouraged doctors and paramedics to employ them in their research. The current study is an attempt to determine the five-year survival time and factors influen...
متن کاملModeling and Inferential Thoughts for Consecutive Gap Times Observed with Death and Censoring
In the perspective of biomedical applications, consider a re- current event situation with a relatively low degree of recurrence. In this setting, the focus is placed on successive inter-event gap times which are observed in the presence of both a terminal event like death and inde- pendent censoring. The terminal event is potentially related to recurrent events while the censoring process is a...
متن کاملThe importance of censoring in competing risks analysis of the subdistribution hazard
BACKGROUND The analysis of time-to-event data can be complicated by competing risks, which are events that alter the probability of, or completely preclude the occurrence of an event of interest. This is distinct from censoring, which merely prevents us from observing the time at which the event of interest occurs. However, the censoring distribution plays a vital role in the proportional subdi...
متن کاملMonitoring the censored lognormal reliability data in a three-stage process using AFT model
Improving the product reliability is the main concern in both manufacturing and service processes which is obtained by monitoring the reliability-related quality characteristics. Nowadays, products or services are the result of processes with dependent stages referred to as multistage processes. In these processes, the quality characteristic in each stage is affected by the quality characterist...
متن کاملComparison of Random Survival Forests for Competing Risks and Regression Models in Determining Mortality Risk Factors in Breast Cancer Patients in Mahdieh Center, Hamedan, Iran
Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women worldwide. Patients with cancer may die due to disease progression or other types of events. These different event types are called competing risks. This study aimed to determine the factors affecting the survival of patients with breast cancer using three different approaches: cause-specific hazards regression, subdistri...
